For a little extra, this property can be booked as a Vill’otel His influence on French history is evident in the numerous statues and landmarks named after him in France. Breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner can be taken on the terrace overlooking the picturesque local village, or alternatively a candle lit dinner can be enjoyed in the dining room.Īn historic landmark in French history, the chateau was once the palatial home of a duke who served under Napoleon and it was given to him as a token of his appreciation for his dedication to France. There are 16 bedrooms across both the Chateau and the adjacent annexe for up to 34 guests.Ĭhateau Le Duc is set in 12 acres of beautifully kept gardens, complete with fruit orchards, a swimming pool and badminton court. All bathrooms are of the highest standard, using brands such as Lefroy Brooks and Sottini and bed linen and towels from Frette. Each room has been carefully decorated with traditional colours and wallpaper from Farrow and Ball, and furnished with antiques and works of art. Built in 1840, it has recently been refurbished to the highest standard of luxury. It was an interesting visit and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. In the heart of Perigord Vert in the Dordogne, lies the magnificent 19th Century Chateau Le Duc and adjacent annexe. I would recommend wearing sturdy footwear and going when it hasn’t been raining! It is an ongoing restoration project and there are some areas where pictures show what it would have originally looked like. We visited after it had rained so found it a little slippery. The castle itself is a ruin and the majority is outdoors. It said on the sign that it was in French and English but we couldn’t see how to change it to English. There is an audio tour that you can use on your phone by scanning a QR code. We also bought a guide book for a euro which was printed in English. There are no facilities at the castle other than a small cafe selling a few basics.Įntry cost just under €10 for each adult. However, if you are not steady in your feet then maybe give this one a miss as there is a lot of steps in the castle. There is parking closer for those that need it. Parking is roughly 700m from the castle with a walkway of loose stones to get to it. ![]()
